Lupe follows Rafael, a young Cuban immigrant searching for their lost sister,
Isabel, in New York City. Rafael is a trained boxer, and their search in the city’s gritty underworld often turns bloody. During a violent encounter in a brothel, Rafael reunites with Elsa, a woman from their shared past in rural Cuba. While Rafael and Elsa join forces to search for Isabel and share memories of their past in Cuba, Elsa realizes Rafael is suppressing their transgender identity. As the film explores Rafael’s friendships and relationships, a breakpoint of Rafael’s personal discovery journey looms large.
