Jason Karman’s feature debut offers a portrait of first love through the eyes of an Asian Canadian teenager on the cusp of his sexuality. Jake (Cardi Wong), is a high schooler managing numerous family and friend expectations. When an attractive new neighbor Aleks (Chris Carson) turns up, Jake is unprepared for his new feelings. Happy but still bewildered, Jake pursues Aleks by joining the school basketball team. Grappling with his sexuality and seeking to still flourish in his community, Jake is caught between the old and the new of his public life. Golden Delicious takes a hard but caring perspective look at gay youth navigating the complexities of everyday life.
