NO CLOSET SPACE: THE HISTORY OF GAY KEY WEST – THE FOUND FOOTAGE

Saturday, October 4 – 4:30pm – UNCSA ACE Theatre Complex | WORLD PREMIERE

Directed by Timothy Dahms | USA | 2025 | English | 108 minutes | Documentary Feature

ABOUT THE FILM:

No Closet Space is an insightful and often hilarious journey through the LGBTQ+ history of Key West — an island unlike any other. Through rare footage and unforgettable personal stories, the film celebrates the misfits, creatives, and rule-breakers who helped revitalize the island, transforming it from a failing small town into a thriving center of art, culture, and community. Along the way, we see how luminaries like Tennessee Williams, Leonard Bernstein, and Truman Capote were drawn to Key West’s energy and spirit — and how the island made history by electing the nation’s first openly gay mayor, Richard Heyman. With eccentric characters and iconic places like The Monster, The Copa, and Captain Tony’s— it is the inside story of an island we all think we know — told by the locals who actually lived it.
